The Information Security specialist is in charge of the Information Security Management function within the ICT Department. The purpose of the Information Security specialist function is to ensure that the organisation’s ICT environment is secure and that the risks of cyberattack is kept at a minimum.

Proactive Security maintenance:

Periodically review users and administrators logs to identify any security bridges and address them
Conduct Penetration and Vulnerability assessments on an ongoing basis;
Monitor the Network Access Protection (NAP)
Identify vulnerabilities and risks in hardware and software;
Establish the best way to secure the IT infrastructure of an organisation;
Building firewalls into network infrastructures;
Monitor the environment for vulnerabilities attacks and intrusions on an ongoing basis;
Implementation and maintenance of the IT Business Continuity Plan which includes daily backups, documentation and failure testing.
Identify user related security gaps and develop suitable information security awareness, training and educational activities for end users.

ICT Governance:

Oversee the implementation of information security policies, standards and procedures.
Oversee compliance monitoring and improvement activities to ensure compliance both with internal security policies and applicable laws and regulations

Operational Management:

Provide written status reports on assigned projects, system activity, scheduled network maintenance, network account information and network problems
Provide report analysis, troubleshooting and firewall maintenance, Intrusion Detection systems, Web server, Remote Access Services and content filtering
Conduct implementation and maintenance to the IT infrastructure and ensure adherence to ICT Governance. Configuration Management on varicose applications, network and server infrastructure

National Diploma in IT or equivalent NQF level 6 ICT Security Qualification.

3 years Information Security or IT Audit or IT Risk Management Experience

3 years Network and or Server Administration Experience.
